2018
Daum Foundation prepared various projects with supports from more than five partner corporates and foundations in 2018, and spent the year to discover further directions of each project through expanding objects to support within existing projects, and operating new ones.
ChangeON Conference had a time with non-profit parties in Jeonju to look back on non-profit in fast changing period. Moreover, by holding ChangeON@ with total five regional partners including the new one encountered at Wonju, we delivered the value and meaning of ChangeON as done last year, and held Digital Heritage Award with National Archives of Korea to make healthy online ecosystem by excavating disappearing digital heritages and preserving them.
With support from Google.org, Ollybolly proceeded Diversity Korea project in public educational area in order to enhance understanding and sensibility on cultural diversity for primary school students in Korea. To enable primary school students to understand and sympathize with cultural diversity issue in Korean society, 22 storybooks with related contents were produced as animation through Diversity Korea project, and gave education on cultural diversity utilizing picture books to 6,000 primary school students. Furthermore, to 550 teachers who are in charge of socializing the next generation, training was given to enhance understanding on cultural diversity and to strengthen their teaching ability.
As a two-year partner with corporate, Youthvoice elevated perfection in project operation, expanded youth target, and gave education combining IT medium. With support from Life Insurance Social Contribution Committee and Kyobo Life, we have met 462 youths through education and camps within and outside school utilizing various media, and with support from Sanofi-Aventis Korea and Beautiful Store, met 300 young patients and their families through media education, workshops and recitals for youths who are suffering from physical disability, and lastly with Kakao Impact Foundation’s support, met 45 youths through IT-ART workshop for children who are under educational inequality in regional childcare centre.
Youth project impact investment ‘AWWWAKE ‘, a project supporting youths who challenge for solving societal problems, was proceeded by Daum Foundation and Underdogs with support from Seoul Metropolitan Government. 16 Youth teams tried hard in many quarters to enhance societal effect and sustainability of project for around three months, and discovered opportunity to grow and learn for themselves.

Education outside school – discovering and training Youthvoice educatorFrom March 21st to 22nd, with start of Youthvoice media education project presentation and workshop, 15 educators were discovered and training through recruitment and evaluation. Educators complete their own curriculum throughout the entire process of planning and implementing media education. Of total 14 media education were conducted in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Wonju, Eumseong and Busan, and educators of new media such as Lego robot and movie review were discovered.

Education within schoolThrough 17 media education at Yangjeong Girl’s High School (Icheon), Pogok Highschool (Yongin), Dasan School (Ilsan) and Hwikyung Girl’s High School (Seoul), Youthvoice met 253 teenagers. Media education for teenagers to discover themselves and voice out various messages in school were done, and helped new educators to expand educating site.

Youthvoice campFrom August 1st to 3rd, a Youthvoice camp to expand sense and expression through media work and share with friends was hosted under the theme ‘small but definite’. It may have been due to last year participants’ review, but it was so popular to close application only two days after since the start of application, and satisfaction on-site was also the best. By experiencing eight media workshop, opening and closing ceremony, networking party, and educators’ small but definite something, it was a meaning summer holiday to discover my new self, away from repetitive daily life.

‘Green Santa’, messenger of hope for young patientsIn its second year, Green Santa strengthened its project operation and education program with Youthvoice. Participating children were to make their own creations through media, away from intimidation. Around 300 children with chronic or rare and incurable illness, the families, and citizens were together at ‘Imagine School’, education on media such as rhythm, installation art, photography, IT/technology and parents’ education, ‘Imagine Playland’, a place to share the result of Imagine School through exhibition and presentation, and ‘Imagine Workshop’, a workshop for youths with IT education which is one the rise as the 4th industrial revolution. Moreover, in order to share and expand the effects and meaning of Green Santa Imagine School, ‘2018 Green Santa Imagine School effectiveness research’ was conducted.

Youthvoice IT/ART workshopWith patronage from Kakao Impact Foundation and personal donations, education focused on creative activity utilizing various technology and media were done, which underprivileged children-teenagers normally had difficulties in receiving. By partnering with ‘Jjomul regional childcare centre’, three IT and ART combined programs were operated which are ‘Lego Odysseia, Car of Legend, Make a moving playland’, and met 45 children.

ChangeON Conference2018 ChangeON Conference was held in Jeonju with ‘Scene 2018 @ Jeonju Societal Innovation’ by Ministry of the Interior and Safety. With topics on ‘extinction, survival, birth of non-profit organism’, we had time to look back non-profit site in a fast changing period, anticipate new hope, and communicate on the further stance that non-profits should take with 200 participants from all over the country. This conference, organized of total four sessions, started with keynote speeches of ▲ Professor Eunmee Kim from Seoul National University Department of Communication and ▲Jungmo Lee, Director of Seoul Science Center, and ▲Jonggeon Lee, Director of Ground X, ▲Bonkwon Koo, Chief of Hankyoreh Life in Digital, ▲Changjoon Kim, CEO of Agile Consulting, ▲Kyungjoon Yang, CEO of Krypton, ▲Youngsoo Kang, Head of Hopesoil, ▲Hyeyoung Jang, Organizer of project ‘Grown Up’, ▲Jinjoo Lee, CEO of Girl’s Robot, and ▲Bakseok Chae, digital journalist participated as speaker.

ChangeON@ChangeON@, held to expand value and meaning of ChangeON to regions, were hosted in five cities, including Busan, Jinju, Chungju, Daejeon, and the newly partnered Wonju from October to November 2018. 250 Participants came to ChangeON@ to share various changes in each region, and to discuss on regional issues and problems. By sharing various stories each region needs, such as ▲Live education to make happy children (Jinju), ▲Changes to daily life made by community (Daejeon), ▲Unchanging change(Busan), ▲Voice of youth for challenge through failure (Wonju), ▲People who plan and connect changes (Chungju), meaningful time was spent together.

Digital Heritage AwardDigital Heritage Award was held with National Archives of Korea to make healthy online ecosystem by excavating disappearing digital heritages and preserving them. A campaign to receive suggestions on meaningful websites worth digital heritage was conducted, and total 110 were suggested.
▲Diversity sector: People and Memory archive, ▲Public sector: women’s rights movement archive, ▲Historic sector: Moohyun Noh archive, ▲Popularity sector: 4.16. Along with awarding some of the suggested websites which are worth preserving, the importance of recording and preserving digital heritages were delivered to the public in celebration of World Records Day, and could engage in deep conversation on digital archiving by holding forum to discover various ways to preserve.

Reforming website for storybook and educatorsAs a part of Diversity Korea project, patronized by Google.org, ollybolly.org, a storybook website for children, and edu.ollybolly.org, the website for educators were reformed. Storybook website provides complimentary access to around 160 storybooks around the world regarding diversity, and educator’s website shares around 120 cultural diversity educational materials using storybook for non-profit purpose. Furthermore, 22 cultural diversity storybooks with topics such as gender, generation, peace which are hot issued in Korean society, were newly produced and utilized as cultural diversity education contents for primary school students.

Expanding cultural diversity educator trainingFor effective expansion of cultural diversity education within primary school, know-how on educating was shared to around 550 teachers through two trainings, which are ‘trainings approved by regional education office (15 hours)’, and ‘on-site training (2 hours)’. In this research which its regions were expanded to Seoul, Busan, and Incheon in 2018, cultural diversity professional and teachers participated as instructor, it was evaluated useful to get practical teaching know-how. ‘On-site training’ was conducted in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon, Chungbuk, and Daegu to primary school teachers on topics which each school encountered.

Cultural diversity education to primary school studentsIn order to provide equal education opportunities regardless of region, cultural diversity classes were given to around 6,000 primary school students in Seoul and metropolitan areas as well as Jecheon, Seosan, Goheung and Jeju, on disability, diverse culture, human rights, and peace. For primary school students to easily approach on cultural diversity, Ollybolly picture books were used during classes, and various educational activities were tried such as be the character and record audio storybook, share experiences with discrimination due to appearance, age and gender, and experience traditional game with immigrant teacher. Cultural diversity education with storybook came up with research result that it was effective for lower graders to understand topics such as ‘immigrant’ and ‘diverse culture’. (Jungmi Hwang, 2019).

Developing educational curriculum through operating teachers’ study groupTeachers’ study group is being operated since 2016 to practice the value of cultural diversity with education in public education. The number of participants was expanded in 2018, and around 20 teachers took part in book discussion, attending lectures, and educational curriculum development researching every month to enhance understanding on cultural diversity and to look for educating method. In 2018, eight primary school teachers utilized Ollybolly storybook in developing educating method on cultural diversity in relation to class lecture, class management, and school clubs. Results for researches could be found on teaching material board from educator’s website.
Impact Investment on youth project

Introductory campIn order to select youth project focusing on the process, an introductory camp was hosted for four days to 23 youth teams which passed documentation. Through education, participants had time to analyze their projects, listen to colleagues, and to consider better ways. On the last day of the camp was interview based on project contents with four days of discussion added. It was a time to look back on their project and concentrate more, whereas before were done quite vague.

Project progressFrom November 2018 to February 2019, the selected 16 youth teams’ projects were conducted. In this project, maximum 25million KRW business expense, common training, individual coaching by exclusive coach, and shared office where could be used during the project period were supported for youths to carry out projects. It was not long, but through supports in various fields, opportunities for youths to try new things were provided.

Result sharing conferenceOn January 30th 2019, 16 teams which participated in youth project investment business shared the contents of activities and the results. Teams which started from very small idea but carried out the program and came up with result, which found new path although the idea changed compared to the beginning, which met many colleagues whereas participated alone at the beginning, and so on gathered and shared their experiences.
